Moment By Moment, Hand In Hand We Are The Dream Of America, this is a torn paper piece, a collage, I made this piece for a show I had in October 2008 called Painting America, with an Australian artist Gail Sue, who was here traveling around painting street scenes of America. I always think I paint about american life, or Americana, so I got the idea for us to have the show together, and I wanted as the central piece of this show, a flag. After 9/11 I did a long series of flag collages that I made out of newspapers and magazines telling the story of the time, and this, of course, is a story of a different time, but I really love this piece, I love the way the flag seems to be moving, and patriotism is very important in our family, the flag is very important, the country is very important, and I know that America often has many things that need to be improved upon, but it also always has many things that are wonderful, and beautiful and a good reason to be in America.
