This is a painting of Fish Beach, Monhegan Island, Maine. The fisherman own these houses. They anchor their boats just off shore and row in on these dinghies...no doubt seeking the homeward path.

Monhegan is a small privately owned island 13 miles out in the ocean. It is a enclave for artists of all types, really a sort of happenstance art colony, and one of my favorite places.
