The Red House on Monhegan Island, Maine, is one of it's most famous landmarks. It is truly beautiful perched on the rocks at ocean's edges. Traditionally, the ferry boat captain lived here (an important personage as the island can only be reached by ferry).

Monhegan is a small privately owned island 13 miles out in the ocean. It is a enclave for artists of all types, really a sort of happenstance art colony, and one of my favorite places.
